New Day & Time for Kidical Mass
With the recent time change, it's been getting darker earlier. We decided that since it would be harder for people to get off work earlier on Friday, that we would change the Kidical Mass bike ride to be the third Saturday of the month instead. The ride will meet at Bird Park on the playground side at Pershing and Upas at 1:30pm and the ride will leave at 2pm. So that means the next Kidical Mass will be Saturday, November 22nd at 2pm!!

rules of the road
Matt over at Tomorrow Morning's Weather wrote a great post on how to ride safety on the road. Riding kids around town is kind of scary and I think that I do a good job of keeping them safe. I hate when people ride on the sidewalk, but when I am pulling my kids on this one stretch of University I do it. There is a two block stretch of University going up a hill towards Hillcrest where I ride on the sidewalk going the wrong way. The sidewalk on the other side of the street abruptly ends and I just do not think that I can safely ride on the road. If there is a pedestrian I always say thank you to them as I ride past or I just get off my bike and walk it. When you are pulling kids there are just some road rules you have to break to keep them safe. Continuing with the topic of road rules, have you seen the way people ride around SDSU? Porter goes to school right by there and in the morning it is crazy with beach cruising students who think they are pedestrians. It is madness.

newbie
Got me a new bike yesterday! Super stoked on it, sooooo happy to get rid of that heavy-ass Wal-mart mountain bike. Not that I have issues with Wal-mart mountain bikes, it just doesn't really cut it for towing a trailer + contents around town! I was undecided on the type of bike and finally made the ultimate decision on whim, settling on an upright road bike. It's not a hardcore roadster, but a nice commuter that is WAY lighter and quicker than I am used to. I rode it home from La Mesa yesterday after purchase and rode it towing my kiddos today to the Kroc Center. I almost feel like I am cheating now, I am going to have to find longer routes for more of a workout! The other types I was looking at were more hybridish with thicker tires for tougher trails, but in reality I am only riding around town and hope to get a couple of triathlons under my belt so I think the road bike style was my best bet. Maybe this means I'll be peddling around town a lot more - honk if you see me!

Perfect Sunday
It had been a week since I had ridden the kids anywhere because I was being lazy with the heat, but Sunday came and I had to do it. We loaded the kids up in the trailer with a lunch, bottle of wine, my grandmas old croquet set and headed off to Redwood Circle. It was a hot ride, but a beautiful perfect day with my family.

lazy and hot
Lately I have been riding around at night without the kids since it has been so hot in the day time. I feel like I am being so lazy, but when it is hot it is hard for me to get myself on the bike. Tomorrow I am going to ride to Kensington and hopefully I start riding the kids more than just once a week.

Kidical Mass
We had our first Kidical Mass on the 15th and we had a good turnout, 22 adults and 19 kids. The ride was easy, mellow and the kids had a fun time, so I am happy! Check out some great photos from the ride here and see you all next month!

Flat
I got a flat in my trailer on Sunday and it sucked. We rode up to the North Park Library and when we were riding to Morley Field to watch Bike Polo I heard this ticking sound, so I stopped and found a thumb tack in the wheel. I rode it to the park then home slowly and had it fixed today. I really need to have a flat kit and learn how to change a tube.
